Dear Nurse Colleague:
For those of you who have not yet visited the Patient Care Services page on BWH’s intranet site www.bwhpikenotes.org, I encourage you to do so. The site serves as a user-friendly, centralized location for many of the resources on which you rely on a daily basis.
The site adds convenience and consistency by providing up-to-date, essentialtools electronically. This saves a step of having to rely on hard copies of thevarious clinical resources that we are required to reference on a daily basis.
Through the hard work of Patient Care Services' Shirley Walsh, the Patient Care
Services site features a comprehensive Nursing section, highlighting an on-lineversion of this publication, nursing textbooks, needle safety information and aclinical practice manual, among other resources. You can also access BWH Patient Care Services References through the start menu. The references can be found byselecting Partners Application and then Clinical References.
Also, a recent addition to the site is the Partners Handbook, a repository of clinically oriented electronic resources. The Handbook aggregates many online textbooks and journals, manuals, guidelines, research tools, forms and documents and many relevant clinical topics. The textbooks online include UpToDate, Harrison's, Redbook, Merck Manual, OVID, PubMed, PDR, MicroMedex, to name a few. To find the Handbook, simply visit www.bwhpikenotes.org and select “Staff Resources” on the main menu bar. Then, select “General Clinical Resources,” where you’ll find the option to click on “Partners Handbook.”
I encourage all of you to utilize this “one stop shop” to reference the majority of clinical resources you’ll need. Moving forward, we will continue to transfer resources currently only found in hard copy, to the intranet. This is another example of how we can streamline information in an organized fashion to help you complete your tasks with confidence and competence.
We encourage your ideas as we continue to build upon the Patient Care Services section of BWH’s intranet. To submit your thoughts, select “Feedback” on the bottom of the Pike Notes homepage or share your ideas with Shirley Walsh in Nursing Administration via email—swalsh2@partners.org
Sincerely,

Nancy Kruger, DNSc, RN
