Award Promotes Enhanced Patient Safety

This year’s Partners Biomedical Engineering Patient Safety Award was presented to BWH’s Michael Dumais, RN, bedside technologies specialist and biomedical liaison for Nursing, who was recognized for his outstanding patient safety efforts, specifically his involvement with the “Alaris” infusion pumps implementation throughout BWH’s Patient Tower. Partners’ Biomedical Engineering Department recognizes and promotes patient safety by presenting its annual award to a deserving recipient in one or more of Partners’ affiliate institutions.
“Mike’s attention to detail and vigilance aided in maintaining safety as the usual project glitches expected with any new technology introduction arose,” said Jeffrey Cooper, PhD,corporate director, Partners Biomedical Engineering.
“This award is an affirmation of a year’s worth of hard work related to the introduction of the brand new infusion system. It is a great honor, especially given the group of individuals from whom I was selected,” said Dumais.
In his role as Biomedical Liaison, Dumais is the liaison between Biomedical Engineering and Nursing. “We are not always speaking the same language,” said Margaret McCarthy-Mogan, manager of Nursing Professional Development. “The goal of both departments is patient safety. When implementing new technology in massive rollout programs, Mike’s insight as a former bedside nurse was extremely valuable.”
