Vacca, Olson Co-author Article for Advance

Vince Vacca, RN, and Adam Olson, RN, of the Neuro ICU
Vince Vacca, MSN, RN, CCRN, is no stranger to the publication process. The Neuroscience ICU nurse educator is credited with more than a dozen published articles on nursing practice. In preparing one of his most recent articles for publication, Vacca collaborated with Adam Olson, BSN, RN, a newly-licensed nurse in the Neuroscience ICU, who learned firsthand the publication process from start to finish.
“Co-authoring this article was a difficult and challenging process, yet the experience was invaluable to my growth,” Olson said. “I hope that the effort and commitment that were required throughout this process will serve me well in my future nursing practice.”
Vacca and Olson focused on a specific clinical issue and developed the topic into a manuscript for publication. “Our success in publishing ‘Epilepsy in the Elderly’ was a valuable experience for me as a mentor. My hope was that Adam would find it equally rewarding as we worked together on the process from idea to outline to manuscript to publication,” Vacca said.
In “Epilepsy in the Elderly,” Olson and Vacca emphasize the clinical significance of a new onset seizure disorder affecting people over 60 and review diagnostic and treatment interventions. “With early recognition, accurate diagnosis, careful treatment and effective management, epilepsy in this vulnerable age group can be successfully managed,” Vacca said.
