June 28 marked the 5th annual Partners Night at the Pops: A Celebration in Honor of Our Physicians. Led by guest conductor Marvin Hamlisch, the Boston Pops treated an audience of 1,000 physicians and their guests to the sounds of Broadway.
A highlight of the evening was the “Rent-a-Composer” segment, when seven physicians joined Marvin Hamlisch, the Oscar winning composer of more than 40 motion picture scores, on stage to create a song.
Partners physicians (pictured above) presented the quick-witted Hamlisch with imaginary song titles, such as “The Boston Celtics Made the Playoffs” and “It’s Your Turn to Take the Dog Out.” Almost instantaneously he improvised music and lyrics to support those titles, providing a musical delight for the audience.
