Here are some important and practical steps BWH staff should consider in advance of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) scheduled for July 26-29 similar to the preparations typically made in anticipation of a weather-related emergency or security alert. The following tips may be helpful to prepare for the anticipated transportation and scheduling challenges of convention week:
• Wear your hospital ID badge visibly at all times and take it home to wear into work. Your ID will allow you to travel and have hospital access if there are any local or federal travel restrictions in place. • If you carry a pager, make sure it is on at all times and the battery is fully charged. • Think ahead about alternate ways you could get to and from work if trans-portation systems are affected.• Pre-arrange for the care of children or pets in the event it is necessary to stay at the hospital beyond your regular shift.• If you have travel plans or other per- sonal circumstances that would affect your ability to be available in an emer- gency, please discuss them in advance with your supervisor.• Listen to local media broadcasts regularly for up-to-date information.• Discuss any questions about the hospital’s emergency preparedness plans with your manager.
