Prostate Cancer is one of the most common cancers diagnosed in men, and much research has been devoted to learning more about how best to diagnose, treat and prevent this disease. BWH is fortunate to have some of the country’s foremost experts leading this cause. On July 10, the 4th Annual Symposium on Prostate Cancer was held in the Bornstein Amphitheater. The Symposium featured Anthony D’Amico, MD, chief of Genitourinary Radiation Oncology; Jerome Richie, MD, chief of Urology; and Clare Tempany, MD, director of Clinical MRI. The panel discussed topics ranging from diagnosis and treatment to the benefits and risks of surgery. New techniques to remove primary tumors in the prostate without surgery and the most recent advancements in the development and interpretation of MRI images of the prostate also were highlighted. After the presentations, BWH Surgeon-In-Chief Michael Zinner, MD, acted as moderator for a discussion session. This open forum addressed the questions and concerns of the nearly 200 current and former patients in attendance.
