Nawal Nour, MD, MPH, was named by the Boston Sunday Globe Magazine as one of the top 11 Bostonians who have changed the world. Nour founded the African Women’s Health Center at BWH in 1999, which allows BWH to care for women with complications from genital cutting and perform reconstructive surgery to improve their lives. The magazine published a piece written by Nour about her work, in which she details the challenges of changing women’s lifelong beliefs that female genital cutting is a noble tradition.
