From left, BWH’s Martha Burke and Joanne Hogan hang the new curtains at Elizabeth Stone House. A group of dedicated BWH volunteers worked tirelessly to create and hang curtains for Elizabeth Stone House, a safe haven for the women and children victims of abusive relationships.
“We will do anything we can to support women and children,” said Tina Nappi, director of Passageway, which coordinated the effort along with the BWH Domestic Violence Steering Committee and Volunteer and Community Access Services. “The project allowed us to support an important community partner to make their emergency shelter more welcoming to families who are fleeing abusive situations and rebuilding their lives.”
The curtains were presented to MaryAnn Chaisson, director of Elizabeth Stone House, at a special breakfast at BWH in appreciation of the 22 volunteers who raised funds, designed, sewed, ironed and hung the curtains.
“Your generous support, commitment, amazing talent with material and a sewing machine, and ability to complete the task of installing the hardware and hanging curtains for 59 windows in less than a work day is inspirational,” Chaisson said. “You have truly made the Elizabeth Stone House a home.”
