BWH Celebrates With Sociedad Latina
September Calendar of Events
BWH was one of the guests of honor at Sociedad Latina's 2002 summer work program celebration. Many BWH department supervisors were present at this celebration, marking another successful year of Jovenes Latinos Pro Salud, an employment and education program that integrates hands-on work opportunities with classroom activities. Sixteen Latino youth worked in various hospital departments for seven weeks. The teens also spent 3.5 hours a day in computer training, life skill workshops and health career seminars. The program culminates in the creation of a Cultural Competency project that benefits the departments and BWH's Spanish-speaking constituents. Located in Mission Hill, Sociedad Latina's programs focus on prevention issues, such as teen pregnancy, tobacco control, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS.
