Vice President of Human Resources Cheryl Locke will be leaving BWH to assume the role of chief human resources officer at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) in early January.
In her new position, Locke will collaborate with academic administrators, campus executives, medical center managers, physicians, faculty and students in an organization employing more than 18,000 employees. UAB includes twelve schools, a 900-bed teaching hospital and a vast research complex.
Under Locke’s leadership since 1998, the HR department has advanced into a modern, efficient unit staffed by the highest level of professionals and her efforts have increased BWH’s profile as one of the area’s most sought-after employers. One of her greatest accomplishments has been the initiation of the Staff Survey, a very successful feedback strategy that has reaped benefits for employees and patients.
“We offer our collective best wishes to Cheryl as she embarks on this wonderful opportunity. This is also a time to celebrate the institutional advances she has brought to us through her commitment to equality and diversity. Her positive impact, quick wit and warm and engaging personality will be missed,” said Gary Gottlieb, BWH president.
