BWH was one of six national recipients of the first Clinical Centers of Excellence in Pain Management awards May 3. The American Pain Society (APS), which presented the awards, praised BWH’s Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine for its multidisciplinary and multimodal practices and commended the department’s wide range of experts on staff. Physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture and oral facial therapy are just some of the modalities used to help alleviate patient pain for BWH patients, APS noted.
“As a team, we are all very proud to receive this designation,” said Srdjan S. Nedeljkovic, MD, fellowship program director for the Pain Management Center.
APS recognized BWH’s efforts to have a unified approach in evaluating pain problems and its innovative approaches to tailor treatment to patient profiles. BWH staff have contributed to state and federal legislation and helped develop models of pain care practice for payors.
BWH was also noted for its highly competitive educational fellowship program with its graduates continuing on as leaders in the field of pain medicine.
“Our mission is to deliver the highest quality of care for our patients while striving for excellence in education and research,” said Edgar Ross, MD, medical director of the Pain Management Center.
Representatives of the BWH Pain Management Center received the award at a gala ceremony during the APS Annual Scientific Conference in Washington, D.C.
