While waiting for appointments at the Pain Management Center at 850 Boylston St., patients and their families now can enjoy a 180-gallon freshwater aquarium loaded with a variety of fish, thanks to the generosity of the Friends of BWH.
Ilene Goldberg, practice manager for the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, which recently was named a Center of Excellence by the American Pain Society, said that many patients sit in front of the tank to enjoy fish swimming along a scenic seascape. "We have patients with chronic pain, and it's nice to offer something so calming as a visual focus point," Goldberg said.
Children are especially curious. "A 9-year-old boy gave us advice on how to keep it clean," said receptionist Sivana Majushi. "The kids always ask when new fish are coming."
