In the spirit of giving this holiday season, the Patient Care Services team skipped holiday gift exchanging among employees again this year, sponsoring three families from the Tobin School and donating $500 to Operation Uplink instead. “We have been sponsoring families from the Tobin School for the past several years,” said Leo Buckley, director, Business Services, Patient Care Services. “We all have so much to be grateful for. It just makes sense to help those in need, especially during the holidays,” added Monique Terrio, RN, nurse administrator. Patient Care Services has added participants as well as a new opportunity. The Surgical Services team joined in donation efforts, which extended not only to the Tobin School but also to Operation Uplink, a unique program that keeps military personnel and hospitalized veterans in touch with their families and loved ones by providing them with free phone cards. Operation Uplink purchases phone cards through donated funds and distributes them to servicemen and women who are separated from those they care about. “I was watching the Patriots game one afternoon and saw an advertisement for Operation Uplink,” recalls Buckley. “I did some research on the program and found it to be really worthwhile, so I thought I would suggest it as another option for contributions this season.” “It’s just a small way of making the holidays special for a few families at the Tobin School and now for families across the country as well,” said Nancy Kruger, vice president, Patient Care Services. “As the song goes, ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.’”
