BWH staff make a difference in the lives of patients and their families each and every day through compassionate care, breakthrough research and commitment to the community. Every year, for two weeks in October, BWHers open up their hearts even more to help those in need.
“Our commitment to United Way is a continuation of our mission,” said Rick Foley, MS, RN, Radiology’s nursing director and co-chair of this year’s United Way campaign, which starts Oct. 18. “When we support the community through United Way, we do more than reach out to people in urgent need. We also support meaningful, lasting change in our region that helps to create a brighter, stronger future for everyone.”
The 2010 United Way campaign kicks-off with its annual ice cream social on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 3–5 p.m., in the Pod B cafeteria. Everyone is invited.
Last year, the campaign reached an all-time high, with more than 1,000 donors contributing more than $155,000 for the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. With $25,000 donated by the hospital, the grand total for the 2009 campaign reached $180,000.
“The BWH community has shown their commitment by increasing the amount raised every year. I believe we’ll surpass last year’s mark and take the campaign to new heights,” said Lisa Whittemore, department administrator for BWPO Primary Care and co-chair of the campaign.
Giving is easy. Starting next week, employees will receive direct, personalized e-mails with a link to their own giving page, simplifying online donations through payroll deduction, credit card or check. Employees who opt out will not receive additional e-mails, and employees who donate through the online mechanism will not receive any follow-up e-mails. Printed pledge cards also will be available throughout the campaign for those who do not use e-mail.
Also, don’t miss the BWH United Way rolling rally cart, which is likely to show up in an area near you. Check out BWHPikeNotes.org for more details.
