A couple of years ago, Phlebotomist Kasia Dodman made a career switch from the financial world to medicine. Now, she is looking to take a new step in the health care field.
She got closer to deciding what that step should be after attending last week’s seventh annual Employee Career Development Event, sponsored by BWH Workforce Development.
“I’m thinking of a career as a physician assistant,” Dodman said. “After talking with a few PAs today, I have a better understanding of their responsibilities, and I would find it rewarding to be at the forefront of patient care.”
Dodman was among hundreds of BWHers who attended last week’s event and learned about advancing their careers within the hospital and the many resources available through Workforce Development, including loan forgiveness and tuition reimbursement.
During the event, BWHers had the opportunity to visit multiple information tables where representatives from clinical departments shared their insights on different careers. Geoff Vercauteren, director of Workforce Development and interim director of Organizational Development & Learning, said it was the biggest turn-out ever for the event.
“We are so thankful to all the departments that participated and volunteered their time to be here today,” he said. “I think an event like this speaks volumes about BWH’s commitment to engaging and advancing their workforce.”
