Internal Medicine residents YiDing Yu, MD, Tim Menza, MD, and Rachel Reid, MD, MS, were recently honored with three out of five 2013 Hopkins General Internal Medicine (GIM) Housestaff Research Awards-a prestigious, national competition-highlighting the exceptional nature of BWH's housestaff.
Yu was recognized with the Diane Becker Award, which celebrates research in clinical epidemiology and prevention. She was honored for her research identifying elevated risk of heart attack, stroke and general cardiovascular disease in patients with psoriasis.
Menza was honored with the David Levine Award, which recognizes outstanding research in behavioral medicine and health disparities. His work focuses on public health and community-based HIV prevention interventions.
Reid received the Daniel Ford Award, recognizing health services and outcomes research. Her work investigated the associations between the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 5-star Quality Rating Program for Medicare Advantage Plans and beneficiaries' health insurance enrollment choices.
Each of the five awards is named for a mentor and researcher at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine whose primary faculty appointment is in the Division of General Internal Medicine. The awards seek to stimulate interest in academic general internal medicine, while recognizing outstanding house officers with potential to become leaders in the field. The award winners will attend a ceremony in Baltimore on Nov. 8, where they will present their winning abstracts and receive their awards.
