BWH Bulletin's year-end issue is a time to reflect on BWHers' proudest moments from the past year. We asked you to share one BWH-related memory from 2013 that was meaningful to you, and you generously offered stories about colleagues, patients, families, events and milestones that continue to inspire you. We hope you enjoy reading these moments.
I am a nurse in the Emergency Department, and my father came in as a patient with very bad fatigue and weakness. He felt embarrassed that he was so weak and unable to toilet properly. I told him not to worry and that what we do is take care of people in their time of need.
My father ended up being admitted, but he told me what great care the nurses and emergency services assistants took of him. They treated him with dignity and understanding and kept him warm.
The next day I thanked ESA Doug Murphy for taking such good care of my father, and he said, "Who was your father?"
It didn't matter that his daughter worked here; like every patient, my father would have received the highest quality care here regardless. This is why I am so proud to work at BWH. Great care is taken of each and every patient no matter who they are.
