Sherwood Elected Medical Staff President at Faulkner
Geoffrey Sherwood, MD, chief of Hematology and Oncology at Faulkner Hospital and medical director of the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center Adult Oncology Clinic at Faulkner Hospital, in October was elected to a two-year term as president of the Faulkner Medical Staff.
“I consider the presidency of the medical staff of a thriving successful community hospital such as the Faulkner as a privilege,” he said.
Sherwood graduated from Brown University and from the Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship at the National Institute of Health and at Duke Medical Center and worked at Dana-Farber in the Divisions of Tumor Immunology and Medical Oncology. He completed his medical internship and junior residency at the Harvard unit of the Boston City Hospital before moving on to MGH for his senior residency.
He has practiced at Faulkner Hospital since 1980, beginning as chief of Hematology. In 2001, he was named chief of Oncology, as well. He played a leadership role in the merger of BWH and FH as a member of the Strategic Initiatives Group.
“The success of our merger, which has been extraordinary, depends on the mutual respect for each other’s core values,” he said. “We have responsibilities as part of the BW/F family, and we have a responsibility to maintain our strength as a community teaching hospital.”
