Partners eCare
Gathers Speed: Hiring in High Gear
As part of Partners eCare, the
program name for the next-generation enterprise-wide clinical and revenue
system and a key component of the Partners strategic initiatives launched in
2010, Partners HealthCare signed a contract in July with Epic, a worldwide
leader in health information technology. To begin design and configuration for
adapting the Epic software to Partners, more than 100 qualified staff members,
30 of whom will be BWHers, must be hired and trained by November.
We are asking
for your help in identifying and encouraging candidates to join the
newly-forming eCare Clinical Application Team as application
coordinators, principal trainers and an application manager. The team will
represent expertise in IT, project management and clinical workflows. The
detailed descriptions for these positions are available online.
Partners is
looking for candidates who have high energy, enthusiasm and a desire to take on
new challenges. These individuals are likely already involved in helping define
and create "best practices" and are looked upon as "go to" resources.
Some will be IS
professionals, but there is also a critical need for people with operational
and clinical backgrounds. "In essence, this is not an Information Systems
project," said Partners Chief Health Information and Innovation Officer David
Blumenthal, MD, MPP. "It is a clinical and administrative program that will
change the way information is collected and used in every office, OR, ED,
inpatient room and outpatient practice throughout the system."
Employees with
clinical or operations expertise who are interested in joining the eCare
team are encouraged to speak with their managers and apply.
Among the
critical activities in integrating Epic with Partners eCare is for
people who will ultimately use the software to put it through its paces. These
"validation sessions" will begin in the coming months to give end-users the
opportunity to understand Epic's functionality. Their feedback will inform the
"design and build" phase of the five-year program.
First up is
Compass, a common administrative system and process that will improve
scheduling, registration and billing for patients and staff. More than 250
entity and business representatives from across Partners have been invited to
the first in a series of four Compass validation sessions. In early 2013, a
similar process will be underway for the clinical system component of Partners eCare.
