ICD-10 Implementation Update
Does your department currently use ICD-9 codes? We will transition from the ICD-9 (International
Classification of Diseases, Ninth Edition) diagnosis and inpatient procedure
codes to ICD-10.
-
ICD-10 provides greater clinical detail
that can be used to measure the quality, safety and efficacy of care.
-
There are many more codes - from 24,000
(currently) to 140,000.
-
The codes include newly evolving
disease and injury identification, preventive measures and new treatment
modalities.
-
ICD-10 codes are already used by most
developed countries throughout the world.
-
They will provide better
epidemiological tracking.
The compliance date for this transition
is Oct. 1, 2014.
