David Sugarbaker, MD, chief, Division of Thoracic Surgery, founder and director of the International Mesothelioma Program, received the inaugural Crystal Ball Clearly Time Award from the Lung Cancer Alliance. He accepted the award last month at a ceremony at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston.
Sugarbaker was one of seven physicians to receive the award for outstanding contributions to the field of lung cancer. He was recognized for his help in pioneering the technique of extrapleural pneumonectomy and its application to patients with mesothelioma. He has developed innovative multimodality therapies and directed several mesothelioma translation research programs.
The Lung Cancer Alliance is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to patient support and advocacy for people living with lung cancer or those at risk for the disease.
