Successful Sick Time Buy Back Program Extends Another Year
The Sick Time Buy Back Program has been extended through September 30, 2004. Under this program, nurses, who have not taken any unscheduled paid time off and have not been absent without pay in a given quarter, are permitted to cash out ten hours of their accrued sick time for that quarter. In addition, nurses who maintain this through the entire year from October 1, 2003 through September 30, 2004, will be eligible to cash out an additional 20 hours of accrued sick time.
Nurses wishing to exercise this option must submit their requests no later than 30 days after the end of the quarter or year in question. They must carry a minimum of 120 hours of accrued sick leave at the time of the request.
“This program was so well-received last year that we decided to extend it through the next period,” said Leo Buckley, director of Business Services, BWH Patient Care Services. “Over 150 nurses have taken advantage of it already, and we’ve had an extremely positive response overall.”
