BWH Announces 2004 Staff Survey
Make a Difference—Your Voice Counts
BWH will conduct its third Staff Survey this month, as a follow-up to its two other surveys conducted in 1999 and 2001. All staff are encouraged to participate and will be able to complete the survey in hard copy or online. This year’s survey is shorter and will take less time to complete than previous versions. In addition, feedback will be more focused on the department level. As a result, action plans will be targeted, while still addressing themes across the full organization.
“By conducting regular staff surveys, staff are able to participate in a continuous improvement process that changes how we work together. We hope the results of this survey help us to build upon our efforts as a result of the last two surveys. By improving the working environment at BWH, we will improve the quality of care we provide to our patients,” said Martha Pyle Farrell, director of Operational Planning and Program Improvement.
“Staff and patient satisfaction go hand-in-hand at BWH and are two of the hospital’s highest priorities,” added Cheryl Locke, vice president, Human Resources. “We strongly believe that satisfied and effective staff will enhance patient satisfaction.”
BWH and BWPO staff, physicians, and Partners employees who primarily support BWH are all invited to participate in the 2004 survey. The survey will be available in English, Spanish and French Creole, and employees will again be offered the option of taking the survey online.
The survey, which poses statements and seeks the level of agreement on behalf of the staff member, addresses overall staff satisfaction, with questions specific to the hospital’s mission, vision and values. There will also be open-ended questions, allowing for individual comments to be shared.
This year’s survey is shorter than the 2001 and 1999 surveys, so staff should plan on spending less than 20 minutes to complete it. Staff will be able to complete the survey on hospital time. Results from this year’s survey will be available and shared with the hospital community at a special Town Meeting in the fall.
