BWHers enjoy performances by American Idol season 6 finalist Melinda Doolittle.
Cynthia Hargrove came to this year’s Street Beat to watch the person she cheered for during season six of American Idol: Melinda Doolittle.
“I can’t believe she is here,” said Hargrove, a team leader in Biomedical Engineering. “She is just so good. I’m glad we get to enjoy her great voice in person.”
The American Idol finalist’s performance was one of the highlights of this year’s employee appreciation event, which hundreds of employees and hospital neighbors enjoyed.
An array of food vendors offered diverse and delicious cuisine. Raffles proved popular, too, with plenty of sporting and museum tickets to be won. Some Street-Beat goers got pampered at the Fitcorp booth with 10-minute chair massages.
Allison Murata, administrative coordinator for the Medical Education Office, was one of nearly 80 who took advantage of the massage. “It was so relaxing,” she said. “It’s great to walk out of the office and be pampered that way.”
Free red T-shirts were a huge hit, said Special Events Coordinator Carlen Singmaster. “Like it said on the T-shirt, it was a wonderful day to ‘celebrate the idol in all of us!’” she said.
Staff also took shots at sinking BWH colleagues in the popular dunk tank to support the United Way.
The celebration continued over at Brigham and Women’s Ambulatory Care Center at 850 Boylston St. last week. A mini Street Beat on the center’s roof included food, music and chair massages from Osher Clinical Center staff.
During both events, volunteers collected clothes and non-perishable foods to distribute to those in need in the Boston community.
