Sonya Barbosa and Abeba Woldgebriel, of the Weiner Center-PATC, have a blast during last year’s Heart Walk.
Already, 28 teams of BWHers have signed up to raise funds and walk in the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade.
“Our goal is to recruit more than 200 walkers and to raise $50,000 for a great cause,” said BWH team co-captain Elizabeth Eagan-Bengston, RN, assistant nurse manager of Shapiro 9 and 10.
The funds raised through the walk support cardiovascular research, advocacy and education. The American Heart Association has raised millions of research dollars for Boston hospitals, and, of these, BWH has received the most funding.
In addition to supporting a good cause, walkers receive a free BWH Heart Walk T-shirt, food, drinks and lots of give-aways pre- and post-walk on Sept. 12. Participants have a choice of walking one, three or five miles around the Charles River Esplanade.
“We hope everyone will start, join or support a BWH Heart Walk team and round up their friends, family members and colleagues to come out for a fun walk day,” said Lisa Preston, RN, clinical educator for Shapiro 9 and 10, and BWH team co-captain.
