 Arthur Mombourquette |
Arthur Mombourquette, vice president of Support Services, has accepted the position of chief operating officer at Cape Cod Healthcare. His last day at BWH and BWFH will be Oct. 31.
A highly-respected leader, Mombourquette has helped guide the institution through many changes over the last 20-plus years. His capacity to lead and collaborate with individuals and teams from departments across the institutions has been an enormous asset. He has ensured successful outcomes in many highly complex projects including the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center and Massachusetts Mental Health Project, and new ones on the horizon, such as the Brigham Parking Garage Project and Stoneman Centennial Park and the Brigham Building for the Future.
As vice president of Support Services since 1999, Mombourquette has managed a great deal of responsibility, overseeing all Real Estate and Facilities functions, including strategic facility planning, lease property oversight and construction of major projects. He also oversees the departments of Environmental Affairs, Security and Parking, Food Services, Patient Transport, Environmental Services, Materials Management, Office Services and Engineering.
Plans for an interim and long-term transition for Support Services will be forthcoming.

Ron Walls, MD, chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, was elected board chair for the BWPO during the Oct. 3 BWPO Board of Trustees Meeting. He succeeds Robert Barbieri, MD, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, who completed his fourth term as board chair.
The chair of the board is elected among department chairs and may serve no more than four consecutive terms. In his role as chair, Walls will preside over all meetings of the trustees and the BWPO Executive Committee, and play an important leadership role in working with the BWPO’s executive team to plan and carry out key strategies focused on improving physician and system performance and the experience of physicians, patients and families. Walls has served as chair of the BWPO Finance Committee for the past four years, and will be succeeded in this position by Steven Seltzer, MD, chair of the Department of Radiology.
 Michael Murphy, MD |
Emergency Medicine
Michael Murphy, MD, has joined BWH as director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Murphy was recruited to the BWH Department of Emergency Medicine from South Shore Hospital, where he served as medical director for the hospital-based EMS system and several fire-based EMS providers.
An innovative EMS expert and collaborative leader, Murphy will facilitate the relationship between the hospital and outside EMS companies in his new role, as well as oversee training for third-party paramedics and other first responders who provide care to patients before they arrive at the Emergency Department.
A board certified emergency medicine physician, Murphy will practice clinically in the Emergency Departments of both BWH and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. Murphy is a member of the executive committee of the Regional EMS Council and the chair of the Regional Trauma Committee. He received his bachelor's degree from Clark University and medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, and trained in emergency medicine at Boston Medical Center.
Office for Research Careers

Earlier this fall, the Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (CFDD) announced the appointment of Robert Fuhlbrigge, MD, PhD, as faculty director for the Office for Research Careers (ORC).
An associate professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics and Vice Chair for Research in BWH's Department of Dermatology, Fuhlbrigge has a long-standing interest in mentorship and research career development. He has worked closely with the ORC since its inception in 2006 and has served on the office's Research Advisory Committee for four years.
He earned his medical and doctorate degrees at Washington University.
Department of Medicine
 Joanne S. Ingwall, PhD |
Joanne S. Ingwall, PhD, BWH senior biochemist, retired last month from her position as vice chair for Faculty Development in the Department of Medicine. While providing support to the entire faculty, Ingwall took on the charge of nurturing the career development of women and minority faculty.
Ingwall's work focused on mentorship and counseling as well as special projects designed to foster career development. In addition to her leadership role at BWH, she also held a position as a Partners consultant for PhD Career Development. This role required oversight of a multi-faceted program focused on issues specific to PhDs working in a hospital setting.
From 1997 to 2007, Ingwall served as the co-chair of the Research Career Development Committee of the BWH Research Council and its successor, the Brigham Research Institute. The goal of this committee is to develop programs that provide career guidance and skills enhancement for the research community at the hospital, with a focus on junior faculty and fellows.
Ingwall received the John MacArthur Research Service Award at BWH in 1999. She is a pioneer in the use of magnetic resonance spectroscopy to study cardiac energetics and function. Ingwall is also the longest serving woman full professor and PhD full professor at BWH.
Center for Clinical Excellence and Hospitalist Service

Omar Hasan, MBBS, MPH, MS, a hospitalist and member of the Center for Clinical Excellence team, has accepted the position of vice president for Improving Health Outcomes with the American Medical Association (AMA) in Chicago. He begins his new position in December.
For the past few years, Hasan has been an invaluable member of the CCE team helping to lead efforts across the continuum of care, including reducing readmissions and improving care transitions. This has been no small task, and Dr. Hasan has tackled his work with an unsurpassed work ethic and perseverance for our patients, according to the CCE.
