Degrees and Professional Certifications
Tracey Littlefield, BSN, RN, staff nurse in the Electrophysiology Lab, is among the recipients of The Furman Fund Award presented by the Heart Rhythm Foundation to cardiologists-in-training and a health professional interested in pursuing electrophysiology research. Littlefield received the award during the May Foundation’s Heart Rhythm 2011 VIP reception at the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco. During the foundation’s event, Littlefield also presented her abstract, “Intra-aortic Balloon Pump Supported Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation: A Case Report.”
Christine Dutkiewicz, MSN, RN, CCM, nursing director of Care Coordination, has made the first-ever Who’s Who List of top directors and managers of hospital case management programs. Using the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospital list as a guide, Case In Point magazine identified the leading figures at some of the nation’s most quality-driven institutions.
Degrees and Professional Certifications

DéAnn McNamara, MS, RN, Clinical Educator for Interventional Radiology, graduated with honors in May from the Massachusetts General Hospital’s Institute of Health Professions with a Master of Science degree in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program.
Jane McMann, BSN, RN, from Tower 11A, and Sandra Abber, BSN, RN, from GYN OR, earned their bachelor’s degrees in nursing from Curry College in May.
Carol Harrington, RN, and Julia Rattigan-Curtin, RN, of Care Coordination, earned their certification as Clinical Documentation Specialists. As of April 2011, only 544 people in the country, and 13 in Massachusetts, have earned this credential.
Alexandra Fremont-Smith, RN, and Mary Baracewicz, RN, of the Center for Assisted Reproduction, became certified in Reproductive Endocrinology by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Drew Wright, BSN, RN, and Lisa Crane, BSN, RN, both of CWN-8, received their bachelor’s degree in nursing science from Curry College and were inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Shapiro 8’s Cindy Shattuck, BSN, RN, CCRN, earned her CCRN certification and Maria Saia, MSN, RN, completed her MSN from the University of Phoenix.
Lynne LeNoir, BSN, RN-BC, CCM, and Susan Greenquist, BSN, RN-BC, CCM, both of Cardiology Care Coordination, have earned their AACN board certification.
Lorrie MacDonald, MSN, BS, RN, nurse-in-charge of Tower 12A, earned her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix in April.
Michelle Schaffer, MSN, RN, ANM, assistant nurse director of the Cardiovascular Diagnostic and Interventional Center, earned her MSN from the University of Massachusetts and became a board-certified nurse practitioner in family practice.
The Electrophysiology Lab’s Brian Dunlea, BSN, RN, earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing from University of Massachusetts, and Beverly Coronis, BSN, RN, earned her BSN from Simmons College.
Galina Gervits, RN, PCCN, of Tower 12A, received her PCCN certification in May.
Erin Kelleher, MS, RN, CCNS, clinical nurse educator on Tower 10BA, recently earned her CCNS certification.

Doreen Harvey, BSN, RN, CCM, and Connie McManus, MBA, RN, ACM, both of Care Coordination, presented their program poster “Integrating RN Care Coordinators Into BW/Faulkner Primary Care Practices: A Model of Care for Medically Complex Patients,” during the 18th Annual American Case Management Conference held in Orlando, Fla. This program was also the topic of the June 1 BWH Quality Rounds presented by Lisa Wichmnan, MS, RN, ACM, and Pia Young, BSN, RN, CCM, of Care Coordination, and Becky Cunningham, MD.
Josephine Atinaja Faller, MS, RN, of CWN-9, Margaret Costello, PhD, RN, of Tower 15D, and Kristina Wickman, MSN, RN, of Tower 6B, presented “Integrating Culture into Nursing Curriculum using Standardized Patients Hands-on,” during the Quest for Excellence Conference in Hagerstown, Md., on June 6.
Linda Evans, MSN, RN, CNOR, Research and Quality specialist in the BWH Trauma and Burn Program, presented “Acknowledging Personal Motivations for Scientific Inquiry: the Risk of Conflict of Interest in Intervention Research,” at the Eastern Nursing Research Society annual meeting in Philadelphia in March.
BWH was well represented during the recent American Association of Critical Care Nursing’s National Teaching Institute held in Chicago in May. Three teams presented the following abstracts:

Maria Bentain-Melanson, MSN, RN, of Shapiro 6, Carol Daddio- Pierce, MSN, RN, CCRN, MICU clinical educator, and Elizabeth Tucker O’Day, MSPT, program manager of Ergonomics, Partners Healthcare Occupational Health Service, presented the poster abstract “A New Horizon for a Collaborative Partnership: An Ergonomic Intervention to Enhance Comfort and Minimize the Risk for Injury.”
The MICU’s Donald Grimes, DNP, RN, Carol Daddio Pierce, MSN, RN, CCRN, Donna Marie Lynch, MSN, RN, CCRN, and Leah Szumita, MSN, RN, presented the poster “Examining Hand-off/Hand-over Communication between Nurses at the Change-of-shift: Examining the Core Data Elements.”
Carol Daddio Pierce, RN, MS, CCRN, presented the poster “To Turn or Not to Turn: Critical Decisions Utilizing a Therapeutic Repositioning Risk Assessment Tool,” which she developed with Lucy Feild, PhD, RN, former BWH Quality Program manager,
Annie Lewis-O’Connor, PhD, MPH, NP, director of Nursing Practice, and Kristen Panico, BSN, RN, of the Intermediate Float Pool, co-authored a chapter titled “Violence and Abuse” in the text book “Public Health Nursing: Evidence for Practice.”
Vince Vacca, MSN, RN, CCRN, clinical nurse educator in the Neuroscience ICU, presented “Vertebral Artery Dissection: Not a rare cause of stroke in young adults,” during the 11th Entering The Mind Zone Neuro-Nursing Conference at Simmons College in June.
