Awards and Honors
Carol Gleason

Carol Gleason, MM, RN, CRRN, CCM, LRC, BCPC, of Care Coordination, received the International Award for Service Excellence in Case Management from the Case Management Society of America during its conference in San Antonio this summer. Gleason was chosen among the 11,000 society members for her extensive work lobbying with legislators and regulators both locally and nationally. Last year, she visited the White House to educate staff about case managers, case management and CMSA.

Degrees and Professional Certifications

Sharon M. Swan, MSN, RN, CNS, nurse educator on Tower 8AB, earned her MSN in the Acute Care track from UMass Boston, and Gail Gregg, MS, APRN, GNP-BC, RN, of Tower 8D, earned her master’s degree in Adult-Gerontological Nursing from UMass Lowell and recently passed the AACN board certification as an advance practitioner in gerontology.
Amanda Ober

The Emergency Department’s Amanda Ober, MSN, RN, completed her MSN at Worcester State University, and Deborah Buonopane, BSN, RN, earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing science from UMass Boston. Regina Pepin, BSN, RN, PCCN, CLCP, of Tower 15AB, earned her Progressive Care Nursing certification.

Kathleen Callahan, MSN, RN, of Tower 16CD, received her MSN from the University of Phoenix.

Labor and Delivery staff nurses Nichole E. Young, RNC-OB, Carolina Da Silva, BSN, RNC-OB, Deb Lundgren, BSN, RNC-OB, Leah Tosches, BSN, RNC-OB, and Juliet Xifaras, BSN, RNC-OB, earned OB certification.

  • “Testing a Clinical Documentation System for Nursing Data Capture Using De-identified Patient Charts,” by Mary O. Hudson, MS, RN; Debra Furlong, MS, RN; and Denise Goldsmith, MS, MPH, RN.

  • “Pre-Procedural Patient Screening: How to Improve Patient Care,” Karen Morse-Gallagher, MBA, BSN, RN.

  • “Standardizing Initial Nursing Assessment Across Two Academic Medical Centers,” Brenda Griffin, MBA, RN; Patricia Dykes, DNSc, RN, FAAN; and Denise Goldsmith, MS, MPH, RN.

  • Patricia Dykes, RN, DNSc, FAAN, Denise Goldsmith, RN, MS, MPH, Kumiko Ohashi, RN, PhD, were among a research team that presented “Leveraging Standards to Support Patient-Centric Interdisciplinary Plans of Care.”

  • “Building Electronic Access Line Documentation,” Lauren Selvitella, RN, MSN, Brenda Griffin, RN, MBA, and Denise Goldsmith, RN, MS, MPH.

  • Kumiko Ohashi, RN, PhD, Carol Keohane, RN, BSN, and Patricia Dykes, RN, DNSc, FAAN, were among a team of researchers that presented “Development of an Electronic Patient Risk Communication Board (ePRCB).”

During the 2011 National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses conference in Baltimore, a group of staff nurses with members of the multidisciplinary care team presented the poster “Early Mobilization and Decreased LOS for the Primary TKA Population – Lessons Learned.” The group included Mary Anne Murphy Kenyon, MPH, MS, RN, ONC; Lisa Lauritzen, RN; Laura McPhilemy, RN; and Barbara Aggouras, MS, NP; Roya Ghazinouri, PT, DPT, MS; Carolyn Beagan, DPT; Bella Freytsis DPT; David Pirani, DPT; Heather Ranson, DPTI; Peter Carrington, PTA; and Magda Hilaire, PCA.
