Awards and Honors

Nadine Dixon, MSN, RN, of Tower 14CD, received the UMass Boston Clinical Leadership Collaborative for Diversity in Nursing Scholarship to Advance Workforce Diversity. Dixon also graduated in May from the Northeastern graduate nursing program, where she completed the Nurse Practitioner Program.

Betty Fenton-Diggins, RN, Linda Steele, RN, Amy Montero, RN, and Arlene Buck, RN, all of of Obstetrics/Gynecology, received the 2011-2012 Ella Adams Memorial Award, which is presented annually to individuals who have made invaluable and unforgettable contributions to resident life and teaching.

Leaders from BWH and Gannett Healthcare Group, the publishers of Nurse.com/Nursing Spectrum, gathered to honor Miriam Greenspan, MSN, RN, nursing director of simulation in the Center for Nursing Excellence, for receiving the 2011 National Nursing Excellence Nurse of the Year Award in the teaching category.

Degrees and Professional Certifications

Maureen B. Fagan,  DNP, MHA

Maureen B. Fagan, DNP, MHA, executive director of the Center for Patients and Families, earned her doctorate in nursing practice from Simmons College. Her capstone project was entitled: "Nursing Determinants of the Delayed Discharge on a Heart Failure Unit." 

Jenna Moran, MSN, RN, of Tower 12C, earned her MSN from Simmons College and will take the nurse practitioner boards this summer.

Monica Crowley, MSN, RN, of Shapiro 9 West/10 East West, graduated from the UMass Boston adult nurse practitioner program.

Heidi Gerostergios, MSN, RN, of Tower 10BA, graduated from Endicott College with her master's in nursing education. She also earned her progressive care nursing certification from the AACN.

Lisa Preston, MSN, RN, clinical educator for Shapiro 9 West/10 East West, graduated from George Washington University, completing her MSN in nursing leadership.

Lauren Avalony, MSN, RN, and Jennifer Layden, MSN, RN, both of Tower 10BA, graduated from the UMass Boston family nurse practitioner program. 

Maureen Keaty, BSN, RN, of Radiation Oncology, graduated from UMass Boston with a BSN.  She was also among this year's recipients of the Genevieve Hope Blaney Scholarship Fund.

Jayne Daly, BSN, RN, of the Ambulatory Infusion Center, earned her BSN from Emmanuel College.

Teri Holden, BSN, RN, nurse in-charge for Shapiro 9 West/10 East West, earned her BSN from UMass Boston.

Three nurses recently earned their certification in Progressive Care Nursing (PCCN): Melissa Driscoll, BSN, RN, PCCN, of Tower 10BA; Katherine Keast, BSN, RN, PCCN, of Shapiro 9 West/10 East West; and Tower 16CD's Christine Brady, BS, RN, PCCN. 

Kristen Scaparotti, BSN, RN, of Tower 8AB, earned her Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Doreen Landry, BSN, RN

Doreen Landry, BSN, RN, nurse in-charge on CWN-7, earned her BSN from Emmanuel College. She also was elected to the board of directors as a member at large for the Society of Gynecologic Nurse Oncologists.

Sherilyn Levy, MSN, RN; Susan Fischer, BSN, RN; and Bonnie Campbell, BSN, RN, of the Center for Infertility & Reproductive Surgery, passed the certification exam given by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Nursing.

Posters, Presentations and Publications

The MICU's Lana Gavin, BSN, RN, Angela Schrage, BSN, RN, and Kimberly Pritchard, RN, CCRN, delivered a podium and poster presentation entitled "Standards for Intermittent and Continuous Temperature Measurement in the MICU" during the April 2012 Greater Boston Chapter-AACN-Regis College symposium entitled: "Emerging Trends Impacting Critical Care Nursing Leaders."

Mary Anne Murphy Kenyon, MPH, MS, RN, ONC, nursing director of Tower 16AB Orthopaedics, graduated from Partners' Clinical Process Improvement Leadership Program (CPIP). Kenyon and fellow graduate Carolyn Beagan, PT, DPT, lead orthopaedic physical therapist, co-chaired Team Spine through a project that developed, tested and implemented a top ten list of things patients should know before undergoing spine surgery. This pre-operative patient education tool focused on care expectation and goals for patients.

Sherilyn Levy, MSN, RN, of the Center for Infertility & Reproductive Surgery, presented the poster "Patient Education on the Web" during the national meeting of the New England National Informatics Consortium in Waltham in May.

Vince Vacca MSN,RN, CCRN, clinical nurse educator in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, published Cauda-Equina Syndrome - Action Stat in Nursing 2012 Vol. 42, No. 5.

Lauren Selvitella, MSN, RN, project manager for Nursing Informatics, presented a poster at the 2012 New England Nursing Informatics Consortium (NENIC) Annual Symposium in Waltham, MA entitled "Brigham and Women's Discharge Module Project Go Live: Lessons Learned." Last fall, she presented a poster entitled "Development of a Collaborative Patient Discharge Documentation Module" at the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) Annual Symposium in Washington, D.C. 

Mary Hudson RN, MS, project manager for Nursing Informatics, co-presented with Jennifer Gray, MSN, RN, and Michelle Stuler, MSN, RN, a poster entitled "Wading Through the Complexity: Current State Dataflow Analysis of Maternal and Newborn Documentation Requirements" at the 2012 New England Nursing Informatics Consortium Annual symposium in May.
