Celebrating A Decade of Mentorship

Students and mentors concluded an eight-week summer mentorship program with a celebratory luncheon on Aug. 12. BWH's Diversity Mentorship program pairs junior and senior nursing students with voluntary, experienced nurse mentors.
“As one of the city's premier mentorship programs, our program demonstrates individual commitment on the part of nurse volunteers as well as institutional commitment on the part of BWH,” said Nancy Hickey, RN, Nursing's director of Personnel Resource Application.
The competitive application process reflects the program's quality, as 30 top students applied for the eight available slots this year.
During the luncheon, students thanked former Assistant Nurse Manager of Diversity Gina Deshazer and their mentors, sharing anecdotes about their experiences at BWH. The students said they were inspired by special qualities of their mentors, including passion for work, attention to detail, good bedside manner, calmness in a crisis, teamwork and tireless advocacy for their patients.
