at Local Domestic Violence Shelter The BWH Domestic Violence Steering Committee is recruiting volunteers to make curtains for a Boston emergency shelter for victims of domestic abuse in order to make the emergency shelter more welcoming.
Officials from the shelter – the name and location of which remains undisclosed for the safety and security of its clients – wished "out loud" for curtains and simple interior decorations during a recent meeting of Boston area health care leaders and domestic violence advocates. This shelter has provided invaluable assistance to many BWH patients and employees over the past nine years.
"These curtains will make a world of difference to make this shelter feel more like a home and more welcoming for the women and children who seek safe haven often in the middle of the night following an incredibly terrifying experience," said Tina Nappi, director of Passageway, a BWH program that provides support services for victims of domestic violence.
Dawn Sadler in Volunteer and Community Access Services, Ron Hindelang in Chaplaincy, Martha Burke in Care Coordination/Social Work, and Paula Gillette in the Center for Women and Newborns, are just some of the Domestic Violence Steering Committee members who expressed enthusiasm and interest in supporting the project.
