Spring-cleaning starts early this year, as BWH reintroduces a two-phase program to improve the management of excess equipment. Support Services is jumpstarting the program because of the upcoming JCAHO survey, but a longer-term solution also was established to ensure hallways and other areas remain unobstructed. The Tag and Snag program initially takes place at the main hospital campus and 221 Longwood Ave. in two phases: Immediate Clean-up and Off-site Storage.
Pick-up of unusable equipment begins Jan. 26, but don’t wait until the last minute to clean up your area.
“We encourage everyone to begin cleaning out their space as soon as possible,” said Jennifer Nadelson, administrative director of Support Services. “There is no need to wait until pick-up day to begin that process.”
During Phase 1, each department should:
Assign a staff member to ensure that equipment is stored in designated areas only and that no equipment obstructs hallways, stairwells, fire doors or access ways.
Label all unusable or outdated equipment with a “REMOVE 1/26” tag during the week of Jan. 19 – 26. Pick up these tags at the Environmental Services office on the PB-Lower Pike, e-mail Luis Soto at lsoto@partners.org for tags or create your own on an 8.5 x 11-inch paper marked “Remove 1/26” in large type.
Receive approval from managers on all items marked for disposal.
E-mail Soto to arrange pick-up of large items, such as refrigerators.
If you have broken equipment in need of repair, follow your usual process for repair and have it removed by Jan. 26.
Beginning at 3 p.m., Jan. 26, and continuing through the next day, Environmental Services will remove marked items for disposal. E-mail Soto with questions about hazardous materials.
The second phase provides access to free off-site storage space where you can keep equipment and have it returned to you, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., within 48 hours of your retrieval request. Call Transport at ext. 2-7117 to arrange for pick-up, storage and re-delivery.
