BWH contributed $2 million to the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center, a residence the American Cancer Society is building to provide cancer patients from out of town with free lodging.
When it opens in spring 2008, the lodge will house patients of BWH and other Boston hospitals who do not require overnight hospital stays, but whose chemotherapy or radiation treatments extend over long periods of time.
The lodge at 125 South Huntington Ave. will include shared kitchen and dining facilities, a library and entertainment room, a garden and a center offering counseling services and transportation to guests.
The lodge adds 40 beds to the city’s 59 beds of this kind available to out-of-town cancer patients. AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals donated $7 million, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute donated $2.5 million, and MGH $2 million toward the new lodge.
