The Longwood Symphony Orchestra this month was one of four U.S. musical organizations to receive the MetLife Foundation Award for Excellence in Community Engagement. The award highlights programs that serve as models for other orchestras.
The orchestra was recognized for its 15-year-old Healing Art of Music Program, which has raised more than $700,000 to benefit Boston’s medically underserved, homeless and pediatric populations, as well as medical charities focusing on hemophilia, Lou Gehrig’s disease, diabetes and others.
