Seventh-grader Mary Sellitto hopes to be a pediatrician or a nurse someday. For the last few years, she has learned more about health care careers by spending Take Our Children to Work Day at BWH with her mom Gina, staff coordinator in Nursing Services.
“I liked when we got to see the Emergency Department and OR. They showed us the tools, and they were giving a lady an ultrasound,” said Mary of last year’s Take Our Children to Work Day.
This year, BWH welcomed elementary to high school-aged students on April 27 with a backpack of goodies and breakfast. Before spending time with their parents, the kids listened to Syeda Soofia, senior HR consultant, and Beverley Sobers, director of Workforce Development, speak about health careers. Shelita Bailey, director of Volunteer Services, led an activity icebreaker and offered information about volunteer opportunities.
Sobers said that numerous BWH-sponsored programs focus on preparing kids to be good employees.
Rosaleen Riley, who works in Nursing Administration, and her third-grade son Dennis enjoyed the day. Highlights for Dennis were “walking around and eating in the Cafeteria.”
