The Pathology Department celebrated the American Society for Clinical Pathology National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week April 23-27 with an ice cream social, breakfast, book swap, sweatshirt giveaways, daily games and raffles.
“This is a great way for them to relax for a short time and socialize with colleagues from across the department,” said Margaret O’Donnell, MT (ASCP), operations coordinator for Pathology.
Hundreds of laboratory professionals work throughout the hospital to prepare and analyze thousands of patient samples every day, from routine blood chemistries to complex molecular testing.
“We have a very broad range of technical specialties, from molecular technologists to phlebotomists distributed across the campus,” O’Donnell said.
“Through their superb technical training and a singular commitment to service excellence, our laboratory professionals contribute uniquely to the quality of clinical care rendered to our patients,” said Milenko Tanasijevic, MD, MBA, director of the Clinical Laboratories Division.
