A new electronic bed management system for Faulkner Hospital went live this week, giving Faulkner Admitting, Nursing, Environmental Services and BWH Admitting access to real time status for Faulkner’s 150 inpatient beds.
The new Faulkner Bed Management System is an extension of the internally developed and recently rewritten BWH system. It has been successfully in use at BWH for the past 11 months. The system improves communication among the different departments that play a role in admitting patients, delivering patient care and facilitating discharge and transfers. Environmental Services at both hospitals have real time access to this information, ensuring an efficient room turn-around for the next patient.
“Extending this system to FH will provide significant improvement in bed management through a comprehensive, online system that facilitates all aspects of bed placement both inside Faulkner and between FH and BWH,” said Sue Schade, BWH CIO.
BWH Admitting staff will have real-time access to the FH’s Bed Management System, a mechanism that enhances the BW/F goal of providing all patients the best care “in the right location,” maximizing the resources of Faulkner’s community setting and BWH’s tertiary care capabilities.
