In October, five-time Olympic swimmer Dara Torres, the oldest athlete to compete at the Beijing games, came to BWH for complex knee surgery. During the procedure, orthopedic surgeon Tom Minas, MD, replaced cartilage in her left knee eroded by years of athletic training using cartilage grown from her own harvested cells.
