Patient Cheryl Cavallaro takes advantage of the free kidney screening hosted by the BWH Renal Division.
The BWH Renal Division’s free kidney health screening drew a record 170 patients and visitors to BWH’s annual event marking World Kidney Day. Through the screening, staff aimed to raise awareness of kidney disease, as symptoms may not appear until the kidneys are actually failing. As part of the event, participants received blood pressure checks, diabetes evaluations, urine examinations for protein and blood; and the opportunity to speak with nephrologists about the results. Li-Li Hsiao, MD, director of BWH’s Asian Renal Clinic, who organized the event, and Joseph Bonventre, MD, chief of the Renal Division, both attribute the success to the team work of volunteers and the convenient location.
