Janet Nally Barnes, JD, RN, executive director of Clinical Compliance and Risk Management, earned the designation of Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) from the American Hospital Association Certification Center. The CPHRM is a national credential that distinguishes an individual as being among the elite in the critical field of health care risk management.
The Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management was established in 2000 to evaluate and improve practices for managing risk in the health care setting. It addresses federal standards, compliance and ethical issues in the context of risk management.
Barnes earned her JD from Suffolk University Law School, her BSN from St. Anselm College and her diploma in Nursing from MGH School of Nursing. She joined BWH in 2000 as director of Risk Management. Barnes began her career as a staff nurse at MGH, working on an adult surgical unit before moving to pediatric and newborn intensive care. She then earned her law degree and held positions as an attorney at insurance defense law firms in Boston and Cambridge, representing CRICO insured members, before entering risk management.
