David Chan, MD, MSc, a fellow in General Internal Medicine, Ian Huntington, MD, a resident in Brigham Internal Medicine Associates, and Neo Tapela, MD, a Doris and Howard Hiatt resident in Global Health Equity and Internal Medicine, were named Martin P. Solomon Medical Education Scholars last month.
“The involvement of trainees in clinical research, particularly research focused on improving the quality and delivery of care, is vital to developing the skills and compassion required of great caregivers,” said Martin Solomon, MD, medical director of Brigham and Women’s Primary Care Associates of Brookline, who was among the speakers during a ceremony to honor the recipients.
Named in honor of Solomon’s commitment to education, the Martin P. Solomon Medical Education program supports residents involved in clinical research.
Chan’s current areas of research include decision analysis, behavioral economics and organizational economics, while Huntington hopes to combine clinical work as a general internist with research on patient self-management of chronic diseases. Tapela will explore a spectrum of illness as she prepares to return to Botswana, where she will provide patient care, mentorship for staff and teaching for the residency program at Princess Marina Hospital. Chan and Tapela are previous scholars of the program, which expects to name five more scholars this fall.
