The Center for Clinical Investigation (CCI) honored faculty who have, over the last academic year, provided more than 170 hours of clinical research education for the 730 faculty, fellows, residents, research nurses and research coordinators who attended CCI courses and programs.
The CCI Education program is directed by Gordon H. Williams, MD, managed by Marianne Moore, RN, and coordinated by Lisa Horton.
During a recognition breakfast last month, the CCI announced this year’s recipients for teaching excellence. The honorees were selected based on student evaluations:
E. John Orav, PhD – A second-time Teaching Excellence Award recipient and HMS Associate Professor of Medicine, Orav has taught advanced biostatistics courses for clinical researchers with the CCI for more than seven years. The “Advanced Biostatistics for Medical Researchers” four-week seminar series is highly anticipated each spring.
Charlotte Messinger, BSN, RN – From the BWH Department of Nursing, Center for Nursing Excellence, Messinger was instrumental in developing the new “Clinical Skills Training” for research coordinators and other non-clinical study staff. Drawing from more than 40 years of nursing experience at BWH, she received glowing marks as co-instructor with Thomas Sullivan, BSN, RN.
Thomas Sullivan, BSN, RN – From the Center for Nursing Excellence, Sullivan has more than three decades of nursing experience. He helped implement and teach several sessions of “Clinical Skills Training.”
Enrico Cagliero, MD – A physician in the Diabetes Unit and Transplant Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, Cagliero is a research subject advocate for Harvard Catalyst CTSA, HMS Associate Professor of Medicine and an experienced clinical researcher. He received the award for his course “Research Participant Education: Resources, Techniques and Tools. The Role of Subject Advocacy.”
