The CWN community came together last month for its annual Service of Remembrance, which supports families who have experienced perinatal loss.
Now in its eighth year, the ceremony offers families an opportunity to share their experiences and find hope and comfort. The event, which is hosted by the Perinatal Bereavement Committee, drew more than 150 parents, children, relatives and BWH staff to the Cabot Atrium. Some attendees shared personal stories, while others offered words of comfort to families by reading inspiring passages and poems.
Attendees also watched a slideshow of photos created by Laurie Bittmann of Chaplaincy and listened to the music of harpist Nancy Kleiman. Each family received a star on which they could write their child’s name, along with a message. They placed the stars on a blue felt board depicting the night sky during the ceremony.
Susan Flynn of Food Service donated Beanie Babies for all the children attending the ceremony.
“Valet attendants, Audiovisual staff, Food Service, Security and social workers all pitched in to help us ensure that parents and their families were taken care of during this emotional ceremony,” said Julianne Mazzawi, MS, RN, NICU assistant nurse director, and co-chair of the Perinatal Bereavement Committee.
