Carlen Singmaster, Kevin Giordano and Chris Collins scoop ice cream for BWHers during the annual ice cream social that kicks off the campaign.
As a Central Transport Services dispatcher, Priscilla Jackson ensures the needs of patients and fellow BHWers are met in a timely manner. Outside of work, she knows her donation to United Way goes a long way to meet the needs of those less fortunate.
“I donate because I believe that we are all on this planet to help one another,” said Jackson, who was among the nearly 850 donors who contributed to the 2010 BWH United Way Campaign. “United Way has a history of supporting many service organizations, and by making just a small donation, I can help some of the programs they support.”
This year’s United Way Campaign came to an end last week, raising more than $145,000 for United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. With $25,000 donated by the hospital, the grand total for this year’s campaign reached $170,000, nearly matching last year’s campaign.
“Thank you to all of you who opened your hearts to help United Way continue to assist thousands of families who can’t afford basic needs,” said Rick Foley, MS, RN, Radiology’s nursing director and co-chair of this year’s United Way campaign.
Lisa Whittemore, department administrator for BWPO Primary Care and co-chair of the campaign, also thanked BWHers who volunteered to staff the United Way rolling rally cart that made its way around the hospital, delivering campaign information to employees. “We couldn’t have done it without your dedication and support,” Whittemore said.
As always, the campaign provided donors with raffled items, including parking spots, sporting event tickets, gift cards, a television and much more. Most exciting was the grand prize of a trip for two to anywhere in the continental U.S.
Next year’s co-chairs Kevin Giordano, administrative director for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Angelleen Peters-Lewis, PhD, RN, executive director of Women’s and Newborn’s Nursing and Clinical Services, are eagerly anticipating the 2011 campaign next fall.
“We can’t wait to do our part in contributing to this cause,” said Peters-Lewis.
