Peter A. Banks, MD
Peter A. Banks, MD, Division of Gastroenterology, has established the Benjamin M. Banks, MD Fellowship in Gastroenterology in memory of his father, also a gastroenterologist. The fellowship will enable clinical fellows in Gastroenterology to complete an advanced program in clinical research at Harvard School of Public Health while also receiving advanced clinical training at BWH.
“The fellowship provides recipients with training necessary to become the future leaders in gastroenterology and sustain the legacy of Dr. Benjamin Banks,” said Peter Banks, MD.
Julie Buring, ScD
Julie Buring, ScD, Division of Preventive Medicine was honored by her alma mater with an honorary doctorate in science for her achievements as an epidemiologist and contributions to women’s health. Buring graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, CA, in 1971.

Michael A. Gimbrone, Jr., MD, chair, Department of Pathology and director, Center for Excellence in Vascular Biology at BWH, received the Distinguished Achievement Award in Cardiovascular Research from Bristol-Myers Squibb in recognition of his seminal contributions to the field of vascular biology.
Carolyn Kaelin, MD
Magic 106.7 honored Carolyn Kaelin, MD, director, Comprehensive Breast Health Center, with the health care award at the 4th Annual Exceptional Women’s Awards. Proceeds from the award ceremony will benefit “Family Connections” at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which provides counseling to the children of women with breast and gynecological cancer.

Resident Patrick Linson, MD, MPH, Department of Radiation Oncology at HMS’s Joint Center for Radiation Therapy, received HMS’s 2001 Dean’s Community Service Award for his work organizing the Four Directions Summer Research Program for Native American college students.

Christina Elizabeth Sebestyen, MD, Obstetrics and Gynecology, received the AMA Foundation Leadership Award. She is one of the 25 residents/fellows to receive the award given to those who have demonstrated strong non-clinical leadership skills in medicine or community affairs and have an interest in further developing these skills within organized medicine.
