There is a new process for any staff member to know precisely which physician is on-call for all of BWH’s services and easily page him or her for urgent clinical needs. The older BICS schedule system is not as up-to-date as the BWH operators’ new system. A web site ( http://ppd.partners.org/oncall) is available from any Partners workstation.
This site lists all clinical services with the most current on-call information (the same information that BWH page operators have). There is a direct link from this on-call site to Partners paging and telephone directory site. BWH telephone operators and Partners Information Systems maintain the site. The on-call paging system is also available from the Partners phone directory ( http://ppd.partners.org) and the Partners home page ( http://www.partners.org).
The new site is designed to decrease waiting times to page clinicians, decrease calls to BWH page operators, and be the most accurate source of all on-call information. To be sure of accuracy, all services must submit typed on-call schedules with the full last names of physicians. Any changes in the on-call schedule for any service must be communicated directly to the page operators ( oncalledits@partners.org). Making a change only in the BICS system will not be communicated to the operators and their current record.
The site is available now and all staff are encouraged to begin using it. If there are any suggestions please call or email Sam Dottin in Telecommunications or Robert C. Goldszer MD, MBA, associate chief medical officer.
