The primary focus of the Center for Excellence in Nursing Practice is scholarly nursing activity to enhance comfort for patients and families within the context of illness, injury and major transitions at the beginning and end of life. Promotion of comfort encompasses many dimensions, including physical, psychosocial, cognitive-perceptual and cultural-spiritual comfort. Last year, the Center co-sponsored four lectures with the Emotional Support Task Force that focused on comfort from those various dimensions of person. This year’s lecture series has been developed to continue exploration of the art and science of Nursing with regard to those aspects of our practice.

Diane Carroll, PhD, RN, CS, will present on the process and findings on her research, which focuses on cardiac rehabilitation for elderly patients without spouses/partners.
The Annual Thomas Kloss, RN Expertise in Emotional Support Lecture November 29, 1:30-12:30 p.m., Carrie Hall.
This lecture celebrates the life and legacy of Tom Kloss, RN and address ways to improve emotional support to patients, families and colleagues. This year Connie Vance, Ed.D., R.N., F.A.A.N. will present on her work related to the importance of developing mentor-protégé relationships in nursing, particularly in today’s work environment.

Possible with the support of the Friends of the BWH, Janice Morse, PhD, RN, FAAN will present lectures, round with staff/leadership and offer the most recent findings/reflections from her extensive research in nursing interventions regarding patient comfort.
