As a child, Maria Paulino, (center) unit secretary, 6B, learned the power of kindness and karma—a lesson she did not forget when encountered a patient’s family in need. Recently, a family came to BWH to visit their ailing loved one. When visiting hours were over, the Vermont-based family could not find a vacant hotel room, so Paulino invited them to her East Boston home in hopes that they could get some much needed rest. Their loved one passed away two days later, but the family did not forget Paulino’s kindness.
