Letter from the BWPO Chairman

Dear Colleagues:
In February, we celebrated the opening of the Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center at Patriot Place in Foxborough. It’s a sparkling new facility that overlooks Gillette Stadium, home of the Patriots whose Superbowl trophies serve as a gleaming reminder of the value of teamwork. Our new center is another testament to teamwork, as Sharon Vitti, Cynthia Peterson, Leanne Espindle and Drs. William Dyslewski, Dale Adler, David Faling and Stuart Pollack—and many others—have led program development efforts on behalf of BWH.
Of note, Sharon Vitti is BWH’s first vice-president-level leader dedicated to ambulatory services. Her leadership was crucial to the development of the vision we share with our MGH counterparts and the Kraft family. In making that vision a reality, Sharon and her team deftly led collaboration among the many varied constituencies while remaining focused on the patient.
Cindy Peterson, the administrative director for this health care center, faced the enormous challenge of executing the vision of putting patients first and ensuring efficiencies. She was integral to creating an environment where patients feel welcomed and cared for and clinicians can deliver top-quality care.
Our Day Surgery Unit came together under the leadership and guidance of anesthesiologist Bill Dylewsky, MD, who had served as medical director of a very busy day surgery unit at Metrowest Medical Center, and Leanne Espindle, MSN, RN, a talented BWH Nursing leader. With four ORs and 16 pre- and post-surgery beds, Leanne and Bill have developed a cohesive unit where procedures are efficient and safe.
Our primary care practice has two elements that very few—if any—primary care practices across the state can claim. First, we are taking new patients in Foxborough. Second, Stuart Pollack, MD, and David Faling, MD, are laying the groundwork to incorporate elements of the medical home model, beginning with strong management and outreach to our patients with chronic disease. Certainly, this is an exciting effort that can improve patient care and expand access.
Truly, these clinical and administrative leaders have laid out ambitious plans to bring the quality care delivered every day at BWH and MGH into the community where our patients live.
Sincerely,
Robert Barbieri, MD
