Dear Colleagues:
As we work to achieve new growth and expertise as defined by our strategic plan, the BW/F Cardiovascular Center plays a critical role. It is one of five centers of excellence around which the plan's activity revolves.
Patients from the worldwide community seek cardiovascular services at BW/F because of our widely recognized high caliber of care, research and education. Demand for such services coupled with their projected margin are two reasons why the proposed new construction at 70 Francis St. will focus on cardiovascular care.
The Carl and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center planned for the site across from the hospital's main entrance will serve as the tertiary hub for the BW/F Cardiovascular Center of Excellence. Significant activity will also be appropriately delivered at 850 Boylston and Faulkner's campus.
The vision of the BW/F Cardiovascular Center is that the highest quality of care will be enabled by a multidisciplinary approach incorporating innovative technology in the setting of advanced educational programs. Many strategies are necessary to carry out such a tall vision.
Growth and differentiation will be achieved through cutting-edge technologies and innovation. A thoughtfully implemented integrated care model paired with a renewed focus on excellent customer service will further provide seamless care for our many patients. Through it all, quality and safety will prevail throughout the full spectrum of cardiovascular care delivery.
We look forward to your collaborative efforts to bring about success with BW/F's Cardiovascular Center and sharing progress notes as we implement this portion of the hospital's strategic plan.
Sincerely,

Andy Whittemore, MD
Chief Medical Officer
